Little red caps serve as reminder of heart health at Northside Hospital

NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Brightly colored hats are warming little heads at Northside Hospital.

A group of seniors are helping out in the nursery - and helping it become a little more festive.

They have been knitting hundreds of little red hats to help get young families focused on heart health this Valentine's month.

“I like to do things that are productive,” knitter Ed Mosely, 87, told Channel 2’s Linda Stouffer. “As an engineer, I look at spectrums. I'm at the end of one spectrum and this is the other, beginning.”

More than 3,000 February babies will get red knit caps, knitted with love.

“There's nothing cuddlier or warmer or better than newborn babies,” knitter Lorraine Waddles said.

The American Heart Association's Little Hats Big Hearts effort is asking parents this month to watch for breathing problems or feeding trouble that might signal a serious issue.

“Just (to) make you aware to be on the lookout for it,” Brooke Whipple of the American Heart Association said.

The Everett family is looking forward to a lifetime of healthy hearts now that baby Eliza stole theirs.

“It just warms my heart every time I take a look at her. She's my little bundle of joy, my angel,” father Tony Everett said.

“You just feel really blessed that you have a healthy baby,” mother Tamecca Everett said.
