Loved ones heartbroken after memorial for 2-week-old baby removed

Caliyah McNabb memorial removed

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — The family of a 15-day-old baby says someone removed a memorial loved ones placed near the spot where she was found dead.

Police found Caliyah McNabb's body in a duffel bag in Newton County earlier this month. Investigators have charged her father Christopher McNabb, 27, with murder.

"It's heartbreaking. I don't understand," a friend of the family told Channel 2's Chris Jose after the memorial they created vanished.

The homeowner says he didn't take the original memorial down.

"There's some road construction about 200 yards away from us," he said,

Jose called the DOT and the county. Both say its crews didn't do it either.

Caliyah's family told Jose they didn't remove the memorial and they're just as puzzled as everyone else.

"This whole community cares about that baby girl and for somebody to take it is just ridiculous," said resident Kasey York.

There are plans to move the new memorial to a safer location, one where Caliyah's life will be remembered.

"It's about our community and somebody destroyed that," York said.
