National homebuilder donates home addition to Copeland

SNELLVILLE, Ga. — National homebuilder Pulte Homes has signed on as the builder of a new 1,956-square-feet home addition for Aimee Copeland.

The home addition is expected to be completed within 40 days, when Copeland returns from rehabilitation after contracting a flesh-eating bacteria. She contracted the bacteria after falling from a homemade zipline and cutting her leg May 1.

Since then, supporters from all over the country have shown their support through donations and other efforts to assist in her recovery.

Pulte's contribution marks one of the latest initiatives.

The two-story space features a new bedroom, fitness room for rehabilitation, the new Pulte Planning Center – an open room with accessibility and views to Copeland's main space, and will be her study area for her continued education in psychology – and an elevator to access other parts of the home, such as the kitchen.

Pulte Homes, along with at least 30 trade partners who have volunteered for the project, are donating their time and materials to ensure that the home renovation is completed for free to the family and prior to Copeland's return from rehabilitation.

Copeland was released for an Augusta hospital last Monday, after nearly two months of specialized care and grueling surgeries.

Doctors were forced to amputate her leg, foot and both hands to save her.
