National glitch creates local license office delays

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A glitch in a national database created long waits at every Georgia Department of Driver's License facility on Tuesday.

The database for the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators went down at about 11 a.m., an official said.

DDS workers use the database to check driver records from other states.

A woman at the facility on Rockbridge Road in Lithonia said she waited for two hours.

"Almost as soon as the system came back up things started to move and then it crashed again. Apparently it's been crashing on and off all day," Pilar Penn told Channel 2's Erica Byfield.

This is not the first time the national database failed.

In all, the system was down for two hours.
