FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. - Code enforcement leaders are stumped after a series of bags full of bio-hazardous waste have turned up in a Forsyth County neighborhood.
Residents told Channel 2 investigative reporter Aaron Diamant they are calling for a crackdown. On Wednesday, he went to one of the spots where residents say, for months, someone has been leaving bags full of human waste by the side of the road.
Denise Hupp said the mysterious black trash bags started showing up along Charleston Park Road outside Cumming last May.
"I want it to stop. I don't want my kids to get into it. I don't want anybody else's kids to get into it. I don't want my animals into it," Hupp told Diamant.
Neighbor Belinda Zalinsky said, "The very first bag I ever discovered had human waste in it."
Zalinsky said she's found at least 50 bags full of nasty who-knows-what dumped on and around her property over the last few months.
"As I bent down to pick up the broken one -- and I had gloves on, and a garbage bag -- a car came by and hit the other one, and it went all over me. That's when I became ill," Zalinsky said.
After a months-long investigation by Forsyth County Code enforcement failed to find the bags' source, Zalinsky set up a surveillance system that captured photos of a white car she believes the illegal dumper drives.
"I'll tell you how brazen he is. Labor Day week, he dumped 18 bags on that street and one of them he dumped in broad daylight," Zalinsky said.
County leaders admit the bags are a health hazard but said they don’t have any real leads.
"Well, we haven't been able to come up with anything identifiable, anything conclusive, so it is an open case. We continue to investigate it," Forsyth County spokeswoman Jodi Gardner said.
Code Enforcement officials said they'll keep returning to the site to clean up and look for clues. Meanwhile, a crack in the case can’t come soon enough for residents.
"It's disgusting,” Hupp said.
