Mother of 2 gets 12 years for running over ex

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — A 28-year-old Douglas County woman will spend the next 12 years behind bars for running over her ex-boyfriend with a vehicle.

The defense tried to blame it on a drug deal, but prosecutors called it a case of a woman scorned.

In July 2010, 19-year-old Darius Rowe broke up with Vanessa Garrett-Rogers and she came looking for him, police said. They said when she found him, she ran him over with her Toyota 4Runner SUV, smashing his pelvis, femur and skull.

In court, prosecutor Tom Kegley said it wasn't the first time Garrett-Rogers, a mother of two small children, has tried to run over a former love interest.

"Seven months ago, another former boyfriend broke up with her, and she almost ran him over in the driveway.  I don't know if she has anger issues, but clearly there's something there," Kegley said.

Garrett-Rogers is out on bond but must report to jail Jan. 2.  She must also pay more than $57,000 in restitution.
