ME: Man found in Lake Lanier had gunshot wound

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A medical examiner found a gunshot wound on the body of a man found dead in Lake Lanier, Hall County sheriff's officials said.

Kelly Nash disappeared from his Gwinnett County home on Jan. 5, 2015, without his identification or wallet.

In the weeks after his disappearance, there was a $50,000 reward for information on his whereabouts.

A month later, a fisherman discovered his body in Lake Lanier.

Channel 2’s Jessica Jaglois spoke with officials in Hall County about the new development.

Hall County sheriff’s officials said in the past that they did not suspect foul play in Nash’s death. On Saturday, they would not comment on whether it was now suspected.

While Nash had a gunshot wound on his body, deputies said they are waiting for the official report from the medical examiner before releasing the cause and manner of death.

The only thing missing from Nash's home was a 9mm handgun, but it is unclear if Nash got rid of it before he disappeared.
