Official: Mayor Reed engaged, expecting first child

ATLANTA, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News has confirmed that Mayor Kasim Reed is engaged to be married. A spokeswoman for the mayor’s office confirmed the couple is expecting.

He provided a statement about his engagement in a news release Monday morning.

"I want to announce the wonderful news that I proposed to Sarah-Elizabeth Langford over the weekend.  I could not feel more blessed that she agreed to marry me, and we look forward to building a family together in the greatest city in America.  I am honored to have our friends and family share this special moment with us and I ask that our privacy is respected as we celebrate this personal occasion."

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Langford, daughter of Atlanta attorney Susan Pease Langford and the late State Sen. Arthur Langford, is a real estate developer and former Miss District of Columbia. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Howard University School of Law, Reed's alma mater.

Officials have not confirmed the baby's due date nor the couple's wedding date.
