MARTA's credit card system remains down

ATLANTA — MARTA is continuing to urge riders, including thousands of people visiting Atlanta for events, to bring cash as the system for accepting credit and debit cards has been down since Saturday.

Riders with Breeze cards, or those hoping to buy one, cannot use a card to do so due to a system-wide problem.

MARTA officials said it is working with the vendor that operates the Breeze card system to fix the problem.

The city encouraged residents and visitors to use public transportation this holiday weekend as thousands of people flooded into town for events like Dragon*Con and the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff game at the Georgia Dome.

Until the issue is fixed, MARTA has placed additional staff at various locations, but travelers said it is still a huge inconvenience.

"I'm trying to find an ATM. I'm new to Atlanta so I have no idea. I'm very lost at this point," MARTA rider Jordan Gold said.

MARTA officials were unable to estimate when the problem will be fixed.
