Marietta man killed in early morning wreck

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County investigators say a 62-year-old man was killed in an early morning wreck in Marietta this weekend.

Police identified the victim as Roosevelt Schimmel of Marietta. He was driving westbound on Lower Roswell Road near Surrey Trail about 1:20 a.m. when he lost control of his car. Investigators said he was trying to negotiate a right curve when he left the roadway, hit a mailbox and flipped before the car came to a final rest against a utility pole.

Police said alcohol might have been a factor in the deadly crash that injured Schimmel’s passenger.

Michele Pierce, 34, was extricated from the car by Cobb County fire crews. She was taken to an area hospital for minor injuries.

The wreck is under investigation.
