Marietta man charged with murder in death of wife of 30 years

MARIETTA, Ga. — Cobb County police have charged a 67-year-old man with killing his wife of 30 years.

Lynn and David York lived in the East Hampton neighborhood in Marietta for nearly two decades and were beloved members or the community, neighbors said.

Sunday morning, Lynn York was found shot to death inside her home. David York has been charged with murder.

Neighbors on Bishop Lake Road said it is the last place they expected gun fire, especially on a Sunday morning. Neighbors call each other by name and have gathered many times for festive events.

Channel 2's Liz Artz spoke to a man who celebrated his 60th birthday with the Yorks last year. He called them friendly, kind people.

Those who knew the couple said David York is a disabled veteran with health issues. Residents told Artz he could barely walk and suffered from the effects of Agent Orange from his time serving in the Vietnam War.

Neighbors said his health has deteriorated over the past four years, to the point where he rarely left the house and was mostly cared for by his wife.
