Man's body found inside Snellville house fire

SNELLVILLE, Ga. — Firefighters have found the body of a man in the rubble of a house fire in Gwinnett County Friday.

The fire department said it was called to a home on Lake Drive in Snellville at 1:45 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they could see heavy flames, but they could not go inside because of the risk for collapse.

Firefighters said they faced issues accessing the home, which is downhill and next to a lake, but the flames were growing closer to a nearby home and threatening electrical lines.

A man and a woman escaped the fire with injuries, but a male relative who was staying in the basement did not make it out. Firefighters found the body at 8:20 a.m.

The fire department said the fire was under control by around 2:30 a.m.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
