Man shot, killed in front of 12-year-old daughter

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — DeKalb police are investigating the shooting a father of two during what they believe was an attempted armed robbery outside the family's home.

Investigators said 57-year-old Yahya Abajobir died from his injuries after someone pulled a gun on him outside his wife's home on Ashbrooke Trace in Stone Mountain.

Abajobir's 12-year-old daughter told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri her parents, who were separated, had just returned from getting her younger brother a haircut.

"The guy held a gun to his chest and pulled him out and told him to give him all his money," the victim's daughter said.

The girl said her father refused to give up his wallet.

"My dad started fighting him and he shot him and when my dad fell, he took his wallet and I started screaming," the daughter said.

The girl said she called police and ran to her father's side trying to keep him awake for medics.

Another neighbor who asked not to be identified said he heard the gunshots and was surprised at the violence in the middle of the day.

Grieving family members said Abajobir and his wife were separated and she had just moved into the townhome. Abajobir's daughter said there were several men inside the gunman's vehicle, some of whom were wearing bandanas to cover their faces.

DeKalb police said they are looking for an older model Ford Explorer in green or another dark color.
