LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - A man is in the hospital with serious burns after escaping a house fire in Gwinnett County.
Firefighters arrived to the home on Dogwood Lane in Lawrenceville just after midnight on Friday to find it completely engulfed in flames. They tried to go inside, but were forced out when the roof partially collapsed.
The Gwinnett County Fire Department said the fire likely began in the back bedroom.
Three adults who lived in the home escaped, but one man suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation.
“There was one adult male who has significant injuries. He was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center. Now still trying to determine what caused this fire and his injuries,” Gwinnett County Fire Department Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.
The house is a complete loss, with just brick walls remaining.
A family member told Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach that the relative staying in the back bedroom is a smoker. The fire marshal will investigate the cause of the fire.
