ATLANTA - A masked man demanded cash from a southwest Atlanta store clerk, but only got away with some bags of chips.
Shafique Akhtar said he was just about to close the Welcome Food Mart on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive last week when a man dressed in an orange jumpsuit and wearing the mask from the movie “Scream” came in with a rifle.
Store surveillance cameras recorded the ordeal. The gunman tried to get behind the counter through a side door that was locked and then hit the window in front of the register with his rifle out of frustration.
“When he moved like that, I just lied down on the floor and he was trying to tell me, ‘Come on, get up and give me all the money.’ I didn’t tell him nothing. I was just keeping quiet and in a minute, he was gone,” Akhtar said.
A few people with the man did manage to get away with some chips and popcorn.
Akhtar told Channel 2’s Darryn Moore the robbers are young and may be some of his regular customers.
Anyone with information is asked to call Atlanta police.
