Man says video shows Georgia Dome stabbing was self-defense

ATLANTA — A man accused of stabbing a man outside the Georgia Dome after the NFC Championship game says cellphone video of the incident shows he was defending himself.

A YouTube video shows a mob attacking Lewis McCoy outside the Falcons game last Sunday.

"I don't like watching them because it continues to bring back the memories," McCoy said.

McCoy said a man punched him for no reason and then other fans joined in, punching and kicking him.

McCoy said he pulled out his knife and stabbed one of his attackers in the neck.

"Even in that moment, they found a way to get the knife out of my hand and continued to beat me," McCoy said.

McCoy said that was when an officer arrived and sprayed pepper spray into the crowd.

"God sent him as an angel to me to save my life, because if he hadn't pepper sprayed those people, I'd probably be dead right now," McCoy said.

McCoy was cited by Georgia World Congress police for reckless conduct, which he plans to contest.

The man he stabbed is still recovering in the hospital.
