Man says he was almost a victim of Craigslist murder

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A local man says he met three Craigslist murder suspects just hours before they allegedly shot and killed a Clark Atlanta student.

"That (could have been) my last day. Monday and I am a dead man. Monday! It's a miracle," said Thomas Tuffa.

Monday is the day Tuffa went with his wife to buy an iPhone 6 and realized he could've lost his life in the process.

He says he tried to meet a man in a public place for the sale, but he says the seller texted him back saying he didn't have a car.

Reluctantly, Tuffa says, they agreed to meet the man on Jamaica Cove in Cobb County. They say they spotted three men when they arrived.

"He held the white box like this and was smoking like this and I said, 'Uh could you show me that box? What you have inside?' He said no at first and then said, 'I want to see the money,'" Tuffa said.

Tuffa says the man was acting uptight.

"He was really nervous," Tuffa said.

Tuffa said when he demanded to see his money; he jumped in his car and quickly drove off.

Two days later he saw the men's pictures appear on the news. The three are accused of murdering 21-year-old James Jones on Jamaica Drive Monday night, the same location Tuffa says he met the men hours earlier.

"I know that guy! I see online. The middle one!" said Tuffa.

Tuffa says he immediately recognized 19-year-old Johnathan Myles. He says he saw 18-year-old Jordan Baker and 21-year-old Kaylynn Ruthenburg behind him, but Tuffa says he only spoke with Myles.

Tuffa says he is now thankful that he's alive.

"I'm a dead person brother. I'm born again," said Tuffa.

When Channel 2's Craig Lucie asked him about the victim, he was very sad and at a loss of words adding that his heart goes out to James Jones' family.
