Man recovering after Southlake Mall shooting

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police said a man is recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital after being shot at Southlake Mall on Monday.

The shooting happened outside of an entrance at the Morrow mall near a now-closed JC Penny store just before 1 p.m., police said.

"It's been closed now for awhile now, and so there wasn't a lot of other people about and about," Morrow Police Chief Chris Leighty told Channel 2's Tom Jones

Police said the shooter, who is still at large, fired several shots, prompting police to believe the victim was targeted. Investigators said the victim may have arranged to meet the shooter at the mall, but they won't say much more than that.
Police said the shooter left in a white four-door car.

Officers are checking the victim's cellphone records to see who he was in contact with before the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call Morrow police.
