Sandy Springs man attacked with wooden board

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Sandy Springs police are investigating a violent attack on a man at an apartment complex.

Fifty-nine-year-old Ambrosio Martines told Channel 2 Action News it happened Saturday night outside of his home on Northwood Drive. He said he saw the suspect, a man half his age, hop over a fence.

"I am not sure if one of the kids got in the way or what happened, so he started scolding him, and wanted to hit him," he said of another person at the scene.  "So, I got up, and called him out on it and told him that he's just a kid, if it would have been an older person, then they could fix it among themselves."

Martinez said the man then picked up a large piece of wood and hit him over the head, hit his hands, then used the wood to shatter his windshield.

"I didn't have any strength," he said.  "It was a piece of wood."

A police report obtained by Channel 2's Mike Petchenik said Martinez was taken to Northside Hospital for evaluation, but his injuries weren't considered life-threatening.

Martinez's son said he came back to the apartment after the attack.

"He wasn't conscious when I got back," he said.

Sandy Springs police were still investigating who attacked Martinez.
