Man arrested in dog stabbing

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Locust Grove police arrested a man they said stabbed a dog in the face last week.

Brando New was arrested Monday. He’s accused of stabbing 6-year-old, Girl, the Rottweiler in the backyard of her owner's home.

Jackie Cross' 11-year-old son and his cousin discovered the disturbing scene early Feb. 4. Girl had been stabbed in the face with a switchblade embedded to the bone.

"My son just started to cry. He was so afraid, you know, like someone is trying to hurt us; someone tried to kill her," said Cross.

The dog was rushed to a veterinarian.

"I have seen some really horrible things, and this is added to the list of horrible things that any human would do to an animal," said Dr. Lexie Mahn.

After the surgery to repair the wound, there were complications. Doctors had to take Girl back into the operating room a second time. Girl was so traumatized by the attack that her digestive system went into spasm. Cross said the dog had never behaved viciously.

New was charged with aggravated abuse towards animals. His bail was set at $2,500. He is currently being held at the Henry County Jail.
