Man arrested for allegedly robbing Wells Fargo bank

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Clayton County police have arrested a man accused of robbing a Wells Fargo on Jonesboro Road in Morrow.

The robber fled from the bank prior to officers' arrival on Wednesday morning.

Officers got a description of the robber, identified as 42-year-old Mitchell Jenkins, of Lake City, Ga. Officers were able to locate him at a Shell gas station at the intersection of Tara Boulevard and Sherwood Drive in Jonesboro, just a short distance from the bank.

Authorities said he was pumping gas in a white Cadillac DeVille when officers arrived. Jenkins tried to flee from officers when they questioned him.

One officer suffered injuries to his hand while trying to apprehend the suspect, who is now in police custody.

Jenkins has been charged with robbery, giving a false name and obstruction.

Authorities believe he might be connected to other crimes in the area.

The Wells Fargo robbery is under investigation.
