Clayton Co. apartment complex full of mold, residents say

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Several residents of a Clayton County apartment complex say mold has taken over their homes and little is being done to address the health hazard.

At the Villages on the River apartments in Riverdale, two tenants gave Channel 2 Action News access to view mold underneath a sink and, in one case, black mold on more than one wall.

Brianna Baker says she has had to keep her 2-year-old son Makhi with his grandparents for a month because she is concerned he may breathe in the mold or, even worse, touch it.

“It breaks my heart but it’s for his own good,” she said, fighting back tears. “That stuff is horrible.”

Three residents who spoke with Channel 2 Action News this week by phone say they have not been given any reassurance that the mold in their units will be removed.

Channel 2 Action News reached out to management on Friday and was unable to get a hold of the property manager.

Baker says when she moved in a month ago the water worked, the smell was non-existent, and the mold was not visible. Nevertheless, she says the property manager told her that any issues she had with the unit would be addressed soon.

“She actually told me she would finish up to the apartment and fix the other things that needed to be fixed and they never came back,” Baker said.
