Lilburn man shot during home robbery

LILBURN, Ga. — Lilburn investigators are searching for the person who shot and robbed a father in his own driveway.

Thursday morning, Lilburn investigators were searching for evidence and interviewing potential witnesses on Greenleaf Drive.

Capt. Ben Haynes told Channel 2's Kerry Kavanaugh the man had just returned from work around 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Police believe someone approached him as he stepped out of the truck. Details from there are unclear. But, ultimately the suspect shot the victim in the back and took off with his wallet.

"It looked like they were waiting or something," neighbor Anna Rivera said.

Neighbors across the subdivision are on edge.

Police said the victim is in his 30s, a brick mason who owns his own business and father of three.

Neighbors said he's a good man who always said hello.

"I'm feeling pretty bad because he's a good person, a very good neighbor," said neighbor Anna Diaz.

Police say the man is expected to recover, but investigators probably won't be able to speak with him again until Monday.

They said he was only able to provide a very vague description of the man before EMS took him to the hospital.
