Law enforcement agencies host active shooter training one week after Vegas massacre

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County law enforcement agencies came together with the community Monday night to honor the Las Vegas victims who died just a week ago.

They also educated the public on how their actions in a similar event can help first responders end the situation with as few casualties as possible.

The active shooting training is called CRASE which stands for Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events. The agencies strategically scheduled this one one week after the Las Vegas massacre.

“I’m gonna be more alert at the places I go into and visit and obviously be aware of my surroundings," said resident Mark Weber.

Weber came to Marietta High School, where the training was held, Monday night for two things: to take a moment to recognize all the people killed in Las Vegas a week ago and to learn about what to do if he ever ends up in a similar situation

"Obviously there’s crazy people out there somewhere and we obviously don’t know all the answers to what happened, we may never know but im gona be more situational awareness," Weber said.

Officer Chuck Philamy said they do these events about twice a year but after what happened in Las Vegas, he said it was time to do it again.

"When an event like Las Vegas happens to us, it’s a time to pull together as a community," he said.

One of the main things police pointed out is you can’t be in denial that a shooting is actually happening. They said you’ve got to be ready to take aggressive defensive action to save your own life and the life of others.

Resident Deborah Lieb said she still feels like she needs more training but this event was a good start

"I did buy a firearm about a year ago but I've done very little training on it so that has motivated me. I’m definitely gonna do that," she said.
