Jury in Taser murder trial views cellphone video

EAST POINT, Ga. — Jurors in the murder trial of two former East Point police officers, viewed cellphone video of paramedics treating a man who had been repeatedly stunned by the officers using Tasers.

The man, 24 year old Gregory Towns, later died.

The former officer, Marcus Eberhart and Howard Weems are accused of murder and other charges.

They used stun guns on the handcuffed Towns, when he failed to comply with an order to get up from the ground and walk to a police car.

The officers said Towns was too large to carry. He was captured following a foot chase after allegedly choking his girlfriend in April 2014.

On Wednesday a witness testified that he saw the officers walking Towns with his hands behind his back in the wood. Jason Greensteen, also said he heard a Taser shock, and then took cellphone video of paramedics treating the suspect.

"They were doing CPR and then putting him on a stretcher." said witness Jason Greensteen.

When a prosecutor asked the witness is what they saw was police brutality, defense attorneys and the officers objected. The judge later told the jury to ignore that portion of the testimony.

Defense attorneys said the officers followed department rules in using their

Tasers, and had no intent to harm Towns. Earlier another officer who was at scene testified she did not believe the stun guns were necessary in the encounter with Towns. Testimony resumes Thursday.
