Jeep nearly crashes into Buckhead restaurant; 1 arrested

ATLANTA,None — People eating lunch in a popular Buckhead shopping plaza got a scare Monday when a Jeep came flying toward them.

Channel 2's Manuel Bojorquez was the only reporter at the scene as the action unfolded.  The incident stemmed from a call to police from a neighbor about a suspicious driver.

Police arrested a man after a Jeep came within inches of slamming into people eating in the outdoor patio of Zoe's Kitchen in the Peachtree Battle shopping center.

"He was coming right at us in the car," witness Thomas Earl told Bojorquez.

Earl was eating at the restaurant with his dog when he saw the Jeep Cherokee jump the curb from Peachtree Road. The car went barreling down a grassy area before it stopped in front of the restaurant, witnesses said. Police were close behind.

"I was sitting right there. They came down the hill. I grabbed the dog. He crashed," Earl said. "That was really kind of it. It happened so quick."

Witnesses said two men ran from the Jeep, leading police on a manhunt through the wooded areas and nearby homes. Channel 2 cameras were rolling as officers searched through trash cans and recycling bins. It was a tense scene, and an afternoon most won't soon forget.

"Kind of scary because you got a lot of kids in this neighborhood, this plaza," witness Adam Duswall said.

Police are still looking for the second man in the car.
