Inmate, deputy hospitalized after crash

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A crash involving a Fulton County Sheriff's Department vehicle caused major delays on Interstate 75 Friday morning.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, an inmate was injured when a sheriff's office cruiser crashed on I-75 northbound near Moores Mill Road around 6:35 a.m.

"A Fulton County Sheriff's Office Ford Crown Victoria was northbound on 75 in the HOV lane when the vehicle struck another passenger vehicle to its right.  The second vehicle hit a vehicle to its right.  The patrol car hit the right shoulder wall and re-entered the travel lanes and hit the fourth vehicle," GSP said.

A female deputy and the inmate were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. The Sheriff's Department said the deputy is OK.

The Sheriff's Department said three other vehicles were involved in the crash, but no other drivers received treatment from EMS.

Northbound lanes of I-75 were closed for about an hour while the crash was cleaned up.
