I-20 reopens after deadly crash

VILLA RICA, Ga. — The east and west bound lanes of Interstate 20 in Carroll County reopened overnight after a fiery crash killed two people and injured two others.

The accident happened under the South Van Wert Road Bridge at about 7:35 p.m. Thursday.

A trooper at the scene recorded video of the tractor trailer that went up in flames shortly after it crashed.

According to Georgia State Patrol, a tractor-trailer and a Cadillac SUV were traveling eastbound when the SUV struck the tractor-trailer and both vehicles crashed into the median. Troopers said the tractor trailer jackknifed, separating from the cab. The cab continued to travel and hit the bridge and caught fire.

The two people in the cab of the truck died in the crash, and two people in the SUV were taken to Tanner Medical in Villa Rica with non-life threatening injuries.

Two vehicles traveling westbound struck debris that landed in the travel lanes and their vehicles sustained damage.

Troopers have not filed any charges and their investigation continues.
