Husband arrested in preschool shooting

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga.,None — A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of his wife and her 10-year-old daughter in front of a Christian academy Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened just after 6:30 a.m. at the Little Mountain Christian Academy, which is located at Highway 155 and Fairview Road.

The mother of the suspect, Terrence Roberson, said her son stole her car earlier in the day and authorities were alerted. Authorities said he was driving a white Saturn SUV.

Rockdale County sheriff's officials said Roberson was waiting on his wife to drop off the child at the school, where she was to catch a bus to Lorraine Elementary School. Deputies said his wife had gotten out of the car and was in the process of removing her daughter when shots rang out.

The mother was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center, and her daughter was taken to Children's Hospital of Atlanta at Egleston. Both were undergoing surgery.

Officials said the woman and her husband have been separated for a year. A family friend, who rushed to the scene, said Roberson had been struggling with marital and other issues.

"[He felt] like a failure in business and a failure in his marriage," Jemel Thomas told Channel 2's Sophia Choi.

Roberson later turned himself in at the Newton County Sheriff's Department, but deputies were tight-lipped about the details.

"He just came in to report a shooting and was taken into custody," Newton County sheriff's Lt. Keith Crum told Choi.

Roberson was taken back to Rockdale County.

The preschool was not closed, but many parents came by to pick up their children.
