Hundreds turn out daily for early voting in Gwinnett

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Between 1,600 and 2,000 early voters are filing through the Gwinnett County Voters Registration and Elections Office each day, according to the county elections director.

Lynn Ledford said the wait times at the Lawrenceville office on Grayson Highway are running between 45 minutes and an hour.

"We've had steady lines all week," said Ledford.

Gwinnett officials decided to open just a single polling place at the main office, though it will open up another four satellite polling places on Saturday.

"We saw an increase in the number of people requesting ballots by mail," said Ledford.  "We saw enough of an increase that we needed to be more here in opening up the one satellite, keeping voters going through."

Early voters didn't seem to mind the wait.

"I wanted to make sure I didn't miss the opportunity on election day," said Patti Giuliano.  "I just think it's going to be crazy."

Renee Tuider was impressed by the turnout.

"This is awesome," said Tuider.  "I would like to see more young people, but this is awesome."
