Homemade Molotov cocktail thrown inside middle school

PAULDING COUNTY, Ga — Police are looking for someone who tried to burn down a school with a beer bottle, filled with gasoline.

According to police, the bottle was tossed into Herschel Jones Middle School’s media center.

Inside the bottle, was a green towel that was supposed to act like a wick for the Molotov cocktail.

Channel 2’s Ryan Young was live in Paulding County, where police say a brick was thrown through a door, breaking the glass, before someone tossed in a bottle.

“Really, it shouldn’t be going on,” said concerned resident Henry Wesley. “And it was probably some kids that was looking on Youtube and found something and think that it was cool to do. But why would you set the school on fire?”

“(We’re) not going to tolerate it at all,” said Sgt. William Gorman. “We’re doing everything we possibly can to find whoever done this and take them before the judge.”

Two bottles were thrown, but only one made it into the school. Police say the bottles are at a crime lab and are being processed for prints and DNA evidence that may be around the mouth of the bottle. Police are also checking the edges of the bottle because they believe that someone was handling it before they tossed it inside.

Police have a couple of suspects in mind and they hope the community will talk to them about it.
