Superintendent finalist fights for job after offer rescinded

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — A lone candidate for the Henry County school superintendent said he will continue to fight for the job even though the board says it's moving on.

Dr. Timothy Gadson told Channel 2’s Tom Jones he was shocked when the board rescinded its offer to hire him Monday.

He said whatever compensation he asked for was up for negotiation.

Gadson showed up to the board's study session meeting Tuesday morning, even though the board said it no longer wants him.

Gadson said he showed up because he still wants the job and wants to negotiate with the board on his compensation.

The board said it is moving on. That's after records show Gadson asked for a compensation package double the package of the current superintendent, who is retiring. The amount is nearly $1 million.

Gadson said he has no idea where those numbers came from. He said he thought numbers being tossed around on both sides were just starting points.

"I was not notified that what was offered on the board side was a final offer, and we weren't asked if what we submitted was a final offer,” Gadson said.

Gadson hopes to meet with the board to resolve any differences.
