Man fires multiple shots at a group of teens at a Waffle House, police say

HENRY COUNTY, Ga — Police say someone fired multiple shots at a group of teenagers early Sunday morning in Henry County.

Channel 2's Carl Willis returned to the scene at a Waffle House restaurant where there was still glass on the floor.

Father and football coach Anthony Mitchell says his 15 and 16-year-old sons and their friends were shot at by an unknown man.

"Six innocent kids' lives are going to be changed for the rest of their lives because of this one incident," he said, "This is going to pass, but at the same time, it's a shocking experience to them."

Shocking because the teens say the encounter inside of the restaurant on Hudson Bridge Road escalated so quickly.

It was early Sunday morning after the big boxing match. A teen who was shot at, who wished to remain anonymous, said the confrontation happened inside the restaurant.

"He came in talking real loud yelling stuff about Floyd Mayweather, and stuff like that and talking to people being loud."

Something about the group of teens rubbed him the wrong way. After they paid and were about drive away, the teens say the man issued a chilling warning.

"He yelled out that our time was coming and we need to watch out for ourselves.”

And before they knew what was happening, Mitchell says the man pulled up to them, pulled out his gun and shot at the kids that were in the truck.

"When I first looked up that's when I saw the first bullet hit the car and then I was just trying to make sure everyone was down.

The boys say the man shot about five times and shouted to the crowd that his name is "Big Mike."

"If (my friend) didn't see the gun and he didn't duck, my friend could have lost his life," the teen said.

Henry County police are working on identifying him and securing video from inside of the Waffle House.

"A guy like that…I mean innocent kids, you would pull out a gun and shoot at them? For no reason at all? You don't belong on the streets," Mitchell said.

The teens say the man was with a woman and drove a bright red pickup truck with University of Alabama stickers and a black flag on the back.
