Mother believes missing daughter may be victim of human trafficking

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Family and friends are on a desperate search for a 16-year-old Henry County girl who got picked up from her high school and simply disappeared.

It's been nearly two weeks since Shavetta Craft saw her daughter, Jassyria.

Craft said she dropped her daughter off at school and then a short time later got a call from the principal's office that Jassyria never showed up for class.

A surveillance photo taken from that day in February shows Jassyria getting into a silver Hyundai. That was the last time she was seen.

Craft believes her daughter, who she describes as a quiet girl, met a much older man on a social media site.

Channel 2's Audrey Washington sat down with Henry County Police, who said they're going through Jassyria's social media accounts and speaking with her classmates.

They said unfortunately, this type of situation is a growing problem in the area.

"Basically, communicating on the internet with these individuals who they probably don't know how old they are and then making a date or whatever the case maybe to hang out, so yeah, it is a dangerous thing,” Capt. Mike Ireland said.

Craft said she got a strange call from her daughter, last month, but it ended abruptly.

She's been posting flyers in Henry, Fulton and DeKalb counties.

She now fears the worst.

"I don't know what she feels right now, but it could be manipulation,” Craft said. “Somebody getting into her mind, telling her things, but for her not to come home -- that's why I believe it's somebody older."

Police told Washington that they are following up on some pretty good leads in this case.

Anyone who spots the 16-year-old girl is asked to call Henry County police.
