Henry County Sheriff's employee killed in crash

MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — A Henry County Sheriff’s Office employee was killed in a car crash on his way home Wednesday evening.

It happened around 6 p.m. on Lassiter Road near Torbet Road in Monroe County.

Thomas Palmer, 56, of Forsyth, was driving home from his shift when his car left the road and hit several trees, deputies said. Palmer was ejected from the car. He was rushed to the Monroe County Hospital, where he died.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal crash.

Palmer had worked with the sheriff’s office for nine years and was assigned to the Court Services Division, Henry sheriff’s Chief Deputy David Foster said.

“Deputy Palmer proudly served the citizens of Henry County and the Henry County Sheriff’s Office,” Foster said. “We ask that you all keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time.”

The deadly accident was Monroe County's 13th of the year, according to the sheriff's office.
"We extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Mr. Palmer," Bittick said.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

The crash site is about 60 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta.
