Fight over flooding fix in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — A Henry County community is fed up with flooding.

The county said Tuesday it will try to fix the problem in Locust Grove, but some residents are not happy with the proposed solution saying the board is going about it in the wrong way. %

Jennie Little described to Channel 2’s Rikki Klaus the floodwaters that rush through her Lester Mill Road property.

"As they have continued to build and push the water back each time, it has come onto our property more and more," Little said.

Joe Norman agrees.

He moved into the Eagle's Brooke subdivision in late 2014.

"Turned this area where we're standing right now into about a foot-plus of water, and got into our basement," Norman said.

Tuesday, the Henry County Board of Commissioners and set aside $70,000 to build a concrete drainage path in the woods that back up to the subdivision.

The property is considered an "undisturbed buffer.”

Little wants the woods that help separate the neighborhoods to remain.

"They just don't need to backpedal and say, 'Well, we can just change the rules now to suit us and to suit our budget,'” Little said.

Klaus spoke with one family in the neighborhood that already has an attorney.

Another resident told Klaus she'd be getting one.

They say the fight over flooding is not over.
