Heavy rains cause flooding, accidents

ATLANTA,None — Flood water engulfed a busy road overnight and caused a number of accidents and power outages.

Police said too much water from the rain at the Spring Street underpass to Centennial Olympic Park Drive caused flooding Friday morning.

A car got stuck in the water beneath the bridge, but was rescued.

Police also investigated a weather-related accident on Interstate 20 east near the Moreland Avenue overpass.

Atlanta police said two cars hydroplaned and collided.  One of the drivers had to be cut out of the car.

Police said people in both cars were taken to the hospital.

Officials in Sandy Springs said a tree fell on power lines, causing some power outages in the area.  Georgia Power reported 1,800 customers without electricity in metro Atlanta.

Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said the heavy rain should end later Friday morning.  It will be mostly cloudy until the front passes through later Friday.
