More cold air to move in Friday

ATLANTA — A chilly night is in store for your Thursday, and another cold front will be moving in on Friday.

"As this front arrives, we're not going to see much in the way with weather with it," said Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns.

Burns said that front will bring a reinforcing shot of cold for the weekend.

Low temperatures for Friday are expected to sink below freezing, with lows in the high 20s and low 30s across north Georgia.

Burns said those temperatures are normal for this time of year, but that makes it harder to deal with when the high across the metro was 67 on Wednesday.

High temperatures across the metro will be in the mid-40s for Friday, about 10 degrees below average, Burns said.

"Get used to it, folks. Winter is just getting started," Burns said.

There will be a small bump in the temperature for the weekend, with highs expected in the upper 40s and low 50s.

Another front of arctic air is expected to move into north Georgia next week.

Rain Causes Messy Morning Commute

The wet roads were issue Thursday morning for drivers on their morning commute. Some areas saw anywhere from 1-2 inches of rain, creating flooded roads. The flooding brought traffic to a standstill on Northside Drive Wednesday evening.

Our Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologists used the most advanced weather technology to track this line of rain and storms for nearly a week as it moved across the country and into Georgia.

Channel 2's Steve Gehlbach found a downed tree blocking Howell Mill Road, between Moores Mill Road and Northside Drive in Atlanta early Thursday morning.

MORNING UPDATES ON TRAFFIC CRASHES:

7:26 a.m.: Crash on I-85 S past GA-400 blocking right lane.

6:58 a.m.: Crash on GA-400 S near Holcomb Bridge Road is blocking a center lane.

6:57 a.m.: Crash on the Downtown Connected north at Langford Parkway.

6:51 a.m.: Crash on I-285 W at Riverdale Road in Clayton County.

6:38 a.m.: Crash blocking all lanes of Mundy Mill at Thurmond Tanner Parkway in Hall County.

6:25 a.m.: All eastbound lanes of S. Fulton Parkway near Roosevelt Highway shutdown due to tractor-trailer crash.

5:46 a.m.: Big rig crash on I-285 S at Camp Creek Parkway.

4:51 a.m.: Overturned truck crash on South Fulton Parkway near Mason and Welcome All Roads.

4:22 a.m.: Big tree is blocking Howell Mill Road between Northside Drive and Moores Mill Road in Atlanta.

2:56 a.m.: A truck crash was blocking at least one lane on I-20 E before Chapel Hill Road in Douglas County.

2:15 a.m.: Truck crash on I-285 W near North Peachtree Road. All lanes were temporarily blocked.

1 a.m.: Three cars were involved in a crash on I-75 S near Mount Zion Boulevard. Crews cleared the scene and reopened lanes around 1:30 a.m.
