Mother says 'monster' is on loose after daughter's murder

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A Hall County mother says a "monster" is responsible for her daughter’s murder.

Tekeila Calloway was found dead in a creek near the abandoned Hidden Hills Golf Course in Dekalb County on Wednesday.

"I never thought I would bury my daughter. I thought she would bury me," said Mary Jones, Calloway's mother. "My daughter did not deserve this."

Jones told Channel 2's Chris Jose that Calloway lived in Gainesville and previously resided in DeKalb County near the abandoned golf course.

"I'm sure the person who had done that to her knows that particular area," said Jones. "You just can't take my daughter, kill her and throw her away, and think you're going to walk away from it. It's not going to happen. It's not going to happen like that."

Jones said investigators found one shell casing at the scene, but DeKalb County police said it's not clear if Calloway was shot somewhere else and dumped in the creek.

"Everybody loved her. If you knew her, you had to love her," said Jones. "The monster didn't know her because if he did, he would not have done that to her."

Calloway's funeral is scheduled for Friday afternoon at Saint Paul United Methodist Church on Summit Street in Gainesville.

The family has a GoFundMe page set up to help pay for funeral expenses.
