Man arrested after missing woman found dead

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A missing Hall County woman was found dead early Sunday morning.

Wanda Kay McDougald’s body was found alongside Highway 60 in Lumpkin County. She had not been seen since Tuesday.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation all took part in the search.

The discovery came hours after Hall County deputies arrested John Harol Whitfield, 52, on Saturday. Deputies said Whitfield and McDougald had previously been in a relationship.

Whitfield was reported missing from his Hall County home on Wednesday.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and murder.

The GBI is now in charge of the investigation.
