'Miracle baby' recovers from multiple dog attack

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A 5-year-old Hall County girl is recovering after she was attacked by the family’s three pit bulls, an official said.

Kadence Johnson, 5, received injuries to her face and neck when she was attacked on April 4 as she walked out the back door.

Hall County Animal Control removed three pit bull=mix breed dogs from the home. The dogs were euthanized.

Mother Jessica Johnson tells Channel 2’s Wendy Corona she will never forget what happened that day.

“They were inside, outside dogs. She played with them every day,” Jessica Johnson said.

When Jessica Johnson went to the backyard, she saw her daughter on the ground and the dogs licking her.

“I don't know if it's because she was bleeding or because they realized they had hurt her,” Jessica Johnson said.

Kadence was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Jessica Johnson says she didn't cry.

“It was more like she was in shock. She didn't cry, but she knew she was hurt,” Jessica Johnson said. “She kept saying I'm hurt, I'm hurt. Can you help me?”

She spent a week in the hospital and is now recovering at home.

Corona says there are obvious marks on her face, a puncture wound on her cheek, both ears torn, but her spirit still strong despite the attack.

“She's most definitely my miracle baby,” Jessica Johnson said.
