Deaf pit bull shot, killed in owner's driveway

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A Hall County woman is upset and looking for answers after her dog was shot and killed outside her home.

Jessica Maloney said her deaf pit bull, Beethoven, was shot June 30 in her driveway in Gainesville.

“My knees buckled out from under me, and I just lost all my composure. It was heartbreaking,” she said.

Maloney said she got the dog as a gift after her discharge from the Army. She named him Beethoven because he was deaf. %

“He was sweet and kind. He was really quirky. If he was hearing, I would have named him Mozart because he was a little nutty,” Maloney said.

She and her family passed out fliers hoping to find the person responsible for killing her dog.

Maloney said her neighbors knew Beethoven would never hurt anyone. She said some are now keeping a closer eye on their dogs.

“It was so devastating. I would never want anybody to go through that,” Maloney said. “It wasn’t like he died of natural causes or in an accident. He was killed in my yard. He was murdered in my yard. It was personal I feel like.”

Hall County Animal Control officers are investigating the incident.
