Crews searching Lake Lanier for missing 23-year-old woman

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Multiple agencies are searching the waters of Lake Lanier for a missing 23-year-old woman in Gainesville.

Lizebeth Ruby Ruiz was last seen late Wednesday night at Lanier Point Park off Dawsonville Highway.

Sgt. Kevin Holbrook, spokesman for the Gainesville Police Department, said Ruiz was with a group of friends at the park when she got separated from them. She has not been seen since, Holbrook said.

Authorities are searching land and water at the lakeside complex.

Divers focused on the area near the peninsula of Lanier Pointe Park Thursday. Dogs have combed the land, but found no scent of Ruiz.

Investigators say they have no real indication if Ruiz is in the water, they're just covering all their bases.

Crews in the search include the police department, fire departments from Gainesville and Hall County, the Hall County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Natural Resources.

The park has been closed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
