Gwinnett officers open fire on man after he points gun at them

BUFORD, Ga. — Gwinnett County police said a 20-year-old man is dead after he pointed a gun at police and the officers opened fire on him.

It happened at about 9:30 p.m. on North Alexander Street in Buford.

Investigators said three officers started questioning a group of men outside an apartment building after they noticed they were smoking marijuana.

Police said at that point one of the men pulled out a gun and put it to his head. Officers said they stunned the man with a Taser.

Investigators said the man pulled the Taser prongs out and then pointed a gun at one of the officers. That's when investigators said the other officers opened fire on the man, killing him.

Police have not released the identity of the man that was killed.
