Man accused of tying up woman, sexually assaulting and Tasing her for 24 hours

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A woman is recovering after police say her boyfriend shocked her with a Taser, raped and tortured her for nearly a day inside of a Buford house.

Police told Channel 2’s Matt Johnson that the boyfriend, Thaun Dinh, 39, is not being cooperative so they don't have a motive as to why the incident happened.

An arrest warrant shows that Dinh may have been after a very expensive diamond.

A woman ran for her life in this Gwinnett County neighborhood after police say a man Tased, tortured and raped her for nearly a day.

“She was able to escape through a very short window of opportunity on Friday morning,” Cpl. Michele Pihera with the Gwinnett County Police Department.

It was around 9 a.m. last Friday when police say the 41-year-old woman escaped through the basement of the home.

Police said Dinh had left her there after about 24 hours of repeated sexual assaults inside the house.

The victim ran to a neighbor's house where they called 911.

“They were home, they opened up the door, they brought her inside, they made her as comfortable as possible,” Pihera told Johnson.

The couple had traveled from California to the house on Grand Ashbury Lane in Buford. Dinh faces charges including aggravated assault, rape and false imprisonment.

Authorities also charged Dinh with robbery, alleging that he stole a diamond ring from her worth $88,000.

Investigators say Dinh has not been cooperative while the victim recovers physically and emotionally.

“I don’t know if she has traveled back to California, but we know that she is safe,” Pihera said.

Dinh is being held without bond.
