New details emerge in murder of pizza delivery driver

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Facebook photo of a 14-year-old holding a gun was presented in Gwinnett County court Friday during a hearing in the murder of a pizza delivery driver.

The teen, Reginald Lofton, and 21-year-old Jermaine Young are accused of luring Shane Varnadore to an apartment complex on Herrington Road on March 1.

Police said when Varnadore arrived, they robbed the 28-year-old of four pizzas, shot him and left him to die.

In court, the lead Gwinnett County investigator testified that both suspects blame each other for pulling the trigger.

“There were several times during the interview with facts changed, the story changed,” said Gwinnett County Police Detective Matthew Kenck.

Kenck describes a search warrant executed in their Lawrenceville apartment the day after the murder. Police believe the suspects hid the murder weapon and magazine inside pancake mix boxes in kitchen cabinets. Three of the four pizza boxes delivered that night were behind washers and dryers.

Ballistic tests have not yet been returned on the gun.

Hours before the murder, investigators testified photos of the suspects were posted to Facebook allegedly showing them posing with the same gun used in the murders with readable serial numbers solidifying that claim.

Channel 2's Nicole Carr saw the family of Lofton approach Varnadore outside the courtroom where they said they were sorry for their loss and how hard it was for them to process.

"It's hard. It's stressful for both families, especially for a 14 year old boy," said Lofton's sister Porsha Porter.

Carr also spoke to the mother of Young, who says her son was not even supposed to be in Georgia during the murder, he was scheduled to return to Chicago that day but missed his bus.
