GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — School officials say prom will go on for a Gwinnett County high school even though it is scheduled at Stone Mountain Park on the same day as a white supremacist rally.
Peachtree Ridge High School students say they found out about the rally this week. %

Because it’s a public park, Stone Mountain says it has no choice but to allow the rally, but park police are bringing in extra security to make sure there are not problems.
Gwinnett County schools spokesman Bernard Watson says that rally should be over two hours before the prom starts and will be on the opposite end of the park, so parents shouldn’t worry.
“We've been in constant contact with park police, and we've been assured that there will be more than adequate police presence there,” Watson said.
Peachtree Ridge’s principal sent a letter home to parents that read; “The safety of our students is our primary focus, and we do not anticipate any issues as the two events do not overlap in time or location."
Many students said they agree with the school’s decision not to reschedule or change the location.
“I honestly feel like this shouldn't be an issue, but as long as we're not near them, there shouldn't be a problem,” said Gabrielle Bellamy.
School officials said proms are scheduled for locations years in advance, so there was no way for them to anticipate this kind of rally.
