Rooster causes mayhem in Norcross

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A rooster is causing some issues in Norcross.

As Channel 2's Tony Thomas explains, the rowdy rooster has a name and quite a reputation for trouble.

Authorities have been trying to catch the rooster they've nicknamed Rodney for several months, he's seems to hang out around a couple of neighborhoods along Mitchell Road.

"Everybody knows Rodney, but they can't catch him," Sgt. Arelis Rivera said.

Rodney is definitely an elusive bird. To start off, he's illegal. Roosters are outlawed in Norcross.

"Rodney knows, he knows, that's why we can't catch him," Rivera said.

It's serious business for code enforcement officer Rivera, who has been tracking Rodney since February.

"What makes Rodney so bad? He's loose and that's makes a lot of people complain," Rivera said.

Especially his habit of waking people up at 5 a.m.

"Some neighbors they sleep until 9, that's why they don't like him," one neighbor said.

No one had seen Rodney recently, but Thomas heard the bird a yard away.

"That's Rodney, you hear him? See him flapping his wings," Rivera said.

But by the time Thomas sped around the block, he was gone, of course.

"Sometimes, somehow a coyote or a dog may get to a rooster, that's sometimes what we hope for," Rivera said.

Code enforcement officers say they did track down Rodney's' original owner who says the rooster simply got loose and they also have not been able to catch him.
