Racist graffiti left all over Gwinnett school

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County high school was targeted overnight by vandals who left hate-filled graffiti on walls, sidewalks and trailers.

Crews had Collins Hill High School blocked off for most of the day as they cleaned up the offensive language.

The graffiti and damage was scattered all around the back side of the school, marked with derogatory words unfit for TV alongside swastikas, Trump, KKK and what appeared to be Klan hoods.

“It's disgusting,” student Brian Diaconu told Channel 2’s Tony Thomas. “That's not right, it shouldn't even be there."

Damage was also reported in the football stadium. NewsChopper 2 spotted torn banners as crews rushed in. By mid-day, most of the graffiti was covered up or washed away.

The damage was first noticed early Tuesday morning by a group of students leaving for a wrestling tournament.

Administrators believe it was likely done overnight.

“At this point, we don't know who is behind this, it could be students, it could be anyone in the community,” said Gwinnett County Schools spokeswoman Sloan Roach.

The area is covered with security cameras. School police told Thomas they are reviewing recordings, hoping to catch a glimpse of the vandals.

Students told Thomas they hope it wasn't someone from the school.

“I just can't see it being someone from our school,” student Alex Araya said.

“That's not Collins Hill, absolutely not. I love my school. The student environment is amazing, it's friendly,” Diaconu said.

Administrators told Thomas once they figure out who the vandals are, they do intend to prosecute criminally.
