Police investigate homicide in parking lot of Gwinnett County Walgreens

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police are searching for the person who shot and killed a man in the parking lot of a pharmacy in Gwinnett County.

Police set up crime scene tape around the Walgreens on Lawrenceville Highway and Sugarloaf Parkway.

Family and friends said Jamal Bryant had just left his parents’ home Tuesday night, and said he was stopping at Walgreens before heading home. A short-time later he was discovered shot, lying in the parking lot next to his car. %

“We believe that the shooting occurred inside the vehicle and after the victim was shot, he got out of the vehicle,” Pihera said.

A cellphone, shoe and other items were all found nearby.

A close family friend told Channel 2’s Tony Thomas the family suspect's the killer is someone Bryant knew and trusted, given that he allowed him or her in his car.

“How do some person come from being such a kind person, caring person that some coldhearted individual out there able to wake up today, not even able to, you think have just hurt that person, you have hurt a lot of people,” said family friend Denise Wilkerson-Mackey.

Bryant's family said the loss has turned their lives upside down.

"The pain we are feeling right now, you have no idea what you have stolen from us. It hurts so bad," his cousin Pronetha Omowole said.

Investigators said they haven't found anyone who aw the shooting, but detectives believe the big break in the case will be the Walgreens security cameras, which are believed to have recorded the entire incident.

Police have already obtained that video, according to family members.
